The time she spent in Italy allowed her to comprehend and appreciate Italian tradition and philosophy, which has had an impact on her own perception of food. Burrell was a part of the Garden of Dreams Foundation Advisory Board to improve the lives of children who face problems. She is also a Juvenile Research Foundation celebrity ambassador who promotes awareness of children with diabetes.
